Green Party's message of hope continues to attract support both in Oswestry and across the country

The Green Party won a Council seat at the Carreg Llwyd by-election in November and now, just one month later, they have another Councillor with the news that Mark Roberts has left the Lib Dem group to join them.

Cllr Mark Roberts, who represents Carreg Llwyd ward, explains “Unfortunately, I feel that the Liberal Democrats have not lived up to their election promises. Rather than listening to and working with local people to improve the town, decision-making is often influenced by a small group of party members. This risks directing policy away from the views of the wider electorate. We were all elected by the residents of Oswestry, and our responsibility is to represent their views.

Fortunately there is an alternative, from campaigning against cuts, protecting our green spaces, pushing for a pump track for teenagers and developing a neighbourhood plan it is Green Councillors who are leading the community and I am delighted to join them. I look forward to listening to local people and delivering newsletters safe in the knowledge that the Green Party will always allow me to speak up for local residents in the Council chamber”.

Shropshire and Oswestry Councillor Duncan Kerr added "The Green Party has seen phenomenal growth since Zac Polanski was elected leader. Our message of hope is attracting a lot of support and national polls consistently show us ahead of the Lib Dems and level pegging with Labour and Conservatives. Here in North Shropshire we have seen our membership double and nationally we are now the second largest party. There has never been a better time to join us in campaigning for a fairer society".
